Barcelona

La Segrada Familia the stunning unfinished church to which Gaudi devoted much of his life is now on track to be completed thanks to the millions of tourists who annually visit.  To be built from donations only, construction ceased on Gaudi's death in 1929 until the 1980's when it recommenced. The recent building, so different from the previous work continues to polorise opinion but fascinates.

Our tour of Barcelona took us through the old gothic and Jewish quarters with narrow alley ways, charming blocks of balconied, shuttered apartments and history preserved and valued but not dominating a modern and vibrant city. The Olympics of 1992 certainly impacted the future of this city in many and positive ways.

Our day ended with a lessonl in cooking paella after visiting the markets- such incredible produce, colours, textures and smells.  The city still humming as we walked home to fall into bed.  Golf tomorrow.
